At this point, we decided we would have to cut our vacation short a day. We had planned on going home Sunday, but Tropical Storm Lee was supposed to get pretty nasty by Saturday night, so we thought it was best that we leave Saturday instead. This completely cancelled Travis's parents' plans to join us at the beach for the holiday weekend. Friday was our last full day and it was pretty rainy. We were hoping for some breaks to have a few more hours on the beach, but that just didn't happen. Dani and Nelson told us about Fort Pickens, a state park at the end of Pensacola Beach where we could drive through and see old forts, cannons and tunnels from the war. They said their grandkids love visiting there and climbing on the forts and through the tunnels and they even suggested that we bring lunch and get on the beach inside the park. Well, it was pretty apparent that the beach wasn't going to happen, so instead we just drove through the park. I think Travis was just as amazed as the boys and we definitely have plans to return on a better day. Travis and Jack did manage to get out when the rain slowed and take some pictures. Here's a picture I took with my phone from the car when they were standing on top of a lookout point. Notice the white caps in some of the pictures. The water that was so calm earlier in the week caused a red flag by Friday and only surfers could be seen in the waves.
